Sales vs content need not be zero sum I should think. It’s about the effects of pharmaceuticals, current and future, on relationships, and MDMA assisted couples therapy. I rely on feminist analysis throughout
Fabulous, & hopefully also a good scientific evidence base based on RCTs (NOT before & after or testimonials - both always +ve biases). My understanding is all psychoactive drugs are addictive, so I'd 'follow the money' as the "pill for every ill" concept is very popular
Yes based on RCTs; MDMA addiction potential is very low
Partly I argue that drugs already used for other things - like depression, even birth control - have unintended side effects for relationships that are not properly studied bc western medicine focuses on individual symptoms not relational contexthttps://www.researchgate.net/publication/294428485_Love_drugs_why_scientists_should_study_the_effects_of_pharmaceuticals_on_human_romantic_relationships …
Very interesting article - thanks. Made me wonder about maternal love & the oxytocin high post birth where there may be many potential risks/ benefits... I note you discourage the use of the term 'love drugs' in appendix, so maybe it is a sales issue?
I’ve flagged the maternal love issue for further research - I agree it’s very intersting and worth looking into. I’m ambivalent about whether love drug is an appropriate term; I use it in my own writing as shorthand & have a chapter explaining why & in what sense
