Cite the sources that are antecedents of your work. If you *use* the work of awful people, too bad you have to cite it. If you decide to try to do science or other academic work without in any way using the ideas of awful people, well, good for you. And good luck.

Well, I must say the first time I've seen this I thought it was the most stupid question ever. An article must on deal with science, and if Scrooge himself did some work fundamental to others, yes of course the author should be cited.
