Wow, just looked @ some more cartoons from artist (was sent link to the specific 1 used in talk) & while it seems we may share a similar basic attitude re: circumcision (vis-a-vis consent issue), we evidently do NOT share similar views generally. Yikes 😧 https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/badwebcomicswikiforum/stone-toss-t1140.html …https://twitter.com/GSpellchecker/status/1056150380122378242 …

Yeah... I was wondering if you were aware what their usual fare is like. I wish we had more figureheads in the intactivist community we can really rally behind, people we can trust aren't going to make us regret our support in the immediate future...

I had no idea - I've never seen a cartoon by that person before. Part of me wants to say, "I should have checked out their general corpus before using the cartoon in a slide," but then the other part of me wants to say that specific ideas should stand on their own. So, hm.

And how is that covered under a professional presentation?

Mr. Earp's presentation seems to clearly fall under "comment, teaching, scholarship or research". Credit was given to the artist and they are aware of this use of their content. If they wish to sue for infringement that's their business, but it probably wouldn't fly in court.

Didn't see credit in the pic. And how could you possibly think "comment, teaching, scholarship or research" is relevant?

That is a good principle, but it doesn't oblige you to use or cite their work to communicate the ideas, unless those ideas were original to them or best expressed by them.

Yeah, we should cripple intactivismm by refusing to use extremely powerful memes because they were made by somebody I don't like.
