I argued in various essays that people with generally ill-supported or otherwise troubling views can of course make good points re: specific issues, and that we should always be careful to distinguish the validity of a given point from the general perspective of the point-maker
-
So, in short, not remotely heartbreaking, but consistent with my general attitude. Even people with abhorrent perspectives can make good arguments in specific areas. For example as I discuss here https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=brian+earp+in+praise+of+ambivalence&oq=brian+earp+in+praise+of+ambivalence&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60j69i65j69i59.3311j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 …

Yeah... I was wondering if you were aware what their usual fare is like. I wish we had more figureheads in the intactivist community we can really rally behind, people we can trust aren't going to make us regret our support in the immediate future...
-
I had no idea - I've never seen a cartoon by that person before. Part of me wants to say, "I should have checked out their general corpus before using the cartoon in a slide," but then the other part of me wants to say that specific ideas should stand on their own. So, hm.

Maybe don't steal art for your professional use?
-
17 U.S.C. § 107 "the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies ... for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching ... scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright"
-
And how is that covered under a professional presentation?
-
Mr. Earp's presentation seems to clearly fall under "comment, teaching, scholarship or research". Credit was given to the artist and they are aware of this use of their content. If they wish to sue for infringement that's their business, but it probably wouldn't fly in court.
-
Didn't see credit in the pic. And how could you possibly think "comment, teaching, scholarship or research" is relevant?
-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use#United_States … What is your deal anyways? Why do you care?

that's the thing, male genital cutting crosses all lines, it's an issue that affects all of us, and those that speak up come from all walks of life. Just a shame there are still so few of us and we aren't really listened to enough yet.
-
That's also why we're vulnerable to being hurt by having extremist allies.

Omg I regret reposting anything by this racist, sexist scumbag. It’s not the first time I’ve accidentally reposted things from alt-rightists.. I need to scope out accounts as well

... so you just steal art for your work?

I think no less of you for sharing a good comic from a sometimes reprehensible artist. Appreciating a work of art should never be used to suggest a general agreement with every view of the artist.
