"Rethinking standpoint epistemology - what is strong objectivity?" - Really nice paper by Sandra Harding on how feminist perspectives can increase objectivity of science, & how people need 2 work across 'identity' lines 2 maximize epistemological resources https://buff.ly/2MifzPT

Harding referred to Newton's *Principia Mathematica* as a "rape manual" in her book *The Science Question in Feminism*, that adds a massive new circus mirror distortion to our world, it doesn't help us successfully negotiate the world.

I didn’t say anything about something she may have said about Newton (and which Wikipedia informs me she said she regretted saying). I said that the paper I read I found helpful and well argued. That paper didn’t mention Newton or rape manuals. So I don’t see the connection

I pointed out the fact that feminist perspectives often _decreases_ the objectivity of science, taking a slightly bent stick & radically bending & twisting it. You said, "Sandra Harding on how feminist perspectives can increase objectivity of science,"

Right, saying that something, if well done, can accomplish A, is not refuted by the observation that, if done poorly, it can impede the accomplishment of A.

I pointed out that the literature you recommend is dominated by B, and the showed you a notorious example of the kind of thing that is common through the literature. You didn't want to hear it. Fine. Hide your eyes.
-
I didn’t recommend a literature. I said that one paper I read made some good points. I’m genuinely confused about what the point is you think we disagree on.

I've taught feminist philosophy of science. I see the value in teaching it. I'd also suggest that identifying the existence of small curiosities & distortions in the mirror does not justifying adding massive new distortions to the mirror eg seeing all of Newton as male domination
-
I said that I read one paper, that I found helpful and well argued, that took me 30 minutes. Your remarks have been about investing “much energy” and whether a good idea can “justify” an apparently bad idea. I don’t see the connection between what I said and what you said
