Part of the reason it’s distressing is there are only a handful of topics I know well - for most of what goes on in the world I read the news like anyone else. If the “facts” presented in mainstream news are generally this poorly informed & lacking in actual research - what then?

Don't apologize. You're right. Yes, it's an opinion piece, but the worst kind: little more than a series of unsupported beliefs the author wishes were true. The facts weren't researched b/c of author & publisher's willful ignorance - that's the key to remaining pro-circumcision.

It's appalling. I am curious why she sees circumcision as part of her religious identity and mark of belonging to the group when, apparently and fortunately for her, she hasn't been circumcised. But that aside.

It’s important to remember all newspapers and major media is owned by large corporations whose boards of directors set what will be covered and from what point of view. I’m sure the guy was only trying to keep his job. He was told what the owners like 2c.
