I just want to follow up on this shocking conflict of interest case at , where the inventor of a newborn circumcision device, after applying for a patent, is invited to co-write the "manual" for performing newborn circumcision, touting his own device for mass use.

Thanks for reaching out. Short answer is "FGM" refers 2 dozen-plus modifications of vulva, ranging from ritual nick of clitoral hood (no tissue removal), to mods. of labia, to excision of external clitoral glans. Overlap in range with male genital cutting (below) is substantial.

A great illustration of the power of social norms. Notice that not a single person needed to change their attitude towards Bon Jovi. There was no persuasive message. But hearing others join in the song led them to join the group.

    (7) My observations fit with Moral Foundations Theory, by et al., that some people feel highly loyal to an ingroup, such as their country, while for others this is hard to comprehend. The theory was replicated recently across many countries.

Hey - what's your most intense professional cringe moment? Mine: I was a visiting speaker at Fancy U. Dinner plans had gotten as far as making a reservation and telling me, but apparently no farther. I ended up sitting by myself at a table for 8 for 2 hours.

would also recommend the last book that Mary Midgley wrote before she died called 'What Is Philosophy For'. She is a very accessible writer and generally great to read.

I was born in Zambia (visiting again in May). Zambia was mostly UNCUT until US-funded circ was introduced to combat HIV. Guess what? HIV has been INCREASING among circumcised men in Zambia - see thread below for recent news on the failure of circ vs. HIV
