    1. Three years ago, I set out to write a book to understand what happened to the world, America, and myself as the undertow of history pulled us into the currents of nationalism and authoritarianism – and what we should do about it. I hope you’ll read it:

This was a cool podcast on After the Fall, and happy to have the book out there in Australia where I've met so many great people.

Via his book 'After the Fall,' former Obama adviser "goes out into the world to understand how it has come to be such an illiberal, authoritarian mess" (). On Sept 23, Rhodes joins us to examine the rise of nationalism around the globe.

The eccentric and pointless CA recall didn't achieve much other than generating fodder for bad takes about why XX is bad for Democrats.

I think about these two and a half pages from Norm Macdonald’s book constantly. When I reviewed it, I wrote that they would “make for a fine eulogy”—and I swear I didn’t mean anything by it. But they do.

On August 4, there were 53,549 new covid cases reported. On September 13, there were 261,341 new covid cases reported. Interesting how the coverage of Obama's birthday was filled with outrage about the Delta variant but it's barely mentioned in coverage of the Met Gala.

The disastrous consequences of pulling out of the Iran Deal are clear every day. The plain statement of fact below exposes the complete failure of the maximum pressure crowd which is still taken far too seriously in Washington

My friend and his family are still in Afghanistan. They remain in grave danger. It is my dream to one day sit on my back porch with my friend and watch our children play together in my back yard. I need your help to make that dream a reality.

First, Taiwan was allegedly doomed bc of the Afghanistan withdrawal and now Taiwan is allegedly doomed because of vaccine mandates for federal employees. Two things that have....nothing to do with Taiwan.

"Biden’s decision exposed the cavernous gap between the national security establishment and the public, and forced a recognition that there is going to be no victory in a war on terror too infused with the trauma and triumphalism of the post-9/11 moment."

As an NPR listener, it stinks seeing so many extraordinary talents and familiar voices moving on, but very grateful for all the years listening to reporting.
