It's always 8 weeks of moody vignettes and people going "OH THE RICH NUANCE" and then it builds to a match where it's like "This is a Demon Dirt match, the goal of the match is to make the other person eat a cup of dirt. The dirt is haunted."
gunther's run perfectly split the difference between "obvious hard sell star-making rumble match push" and "greg 'the hammer' valentine rumble match push" which is perfect because he is in fact exactly between an obvious wwe top guy and the new greg "the hammer" valentine
I don't think the Roman title reign has been perfect. In fact, I think a large portion of it stunk pretty bad. That said, the stuff since Sami came in the fold has been very good (as the stuff early on with Jey way) so seeing those overlap is good
Jey leaving was such a massive moment in all of this. That was the man who saw Roman for who he was when he started all of this but caved when he knew better. This has been overly long but that one touch was everything
There has never been a more "oh, Hunter has the book" thing than "Yeah, we're giving Gunther 70+ minutes in the Rumble and a big dramatic final two battle with the obvious winner.
Tommy Fletcher (3-0, 3 KO) vs Darryl Sharp (7-96-1, 1 KO) is on now. Love the UK dudes who just go out there and pile up records like this. True workhorses of the scene.
Michael B. Jordan says his fights in ‘CREED III’ have a “Japanese anime influence.”

I guess via "right now, in this moment, who would you put on the best stuff and be all about what was happening in a wrestling context only?" and going purely by gut reaction to the question:
Brian Danielson
Bret Hart
FTR (they are counted as one)
Kenta Kobashi
Ted DiBiase
I hope to get a lot of responses here because I think the answer helps define who you are as a wrestling fan…
Who are your favourite five wrestlers right now? Criteria is whatever you want it to be.
Mine:
Danielson
Garcia
Speedball
Carmelo
Ishii
My man donned a Jigsaw mask and went to the ref for the announcement without understanding that he had lost by disqualification. BKFC blessing us with one of the all-time funniest moments in combat sports history tonight.

This has been my dream job, but I just got my 30 days notice.
BE will no longer be "supported" as part of Vox's latest cuts. I'm gutted as I grew up with the site, but I’ll always be proud of my team & its place in MMA journalism
Last thing, but I built a career off of the opportunity I was given to work at Bloody Elbow and I'm eternally grateful for that. I was working in IT and hating every bit of it. Bloody Elbow improved my life and the lives of my family because of that opportunity. I love that place
BE produced legitimate *talent*. The number of people who wrote for the site and became established media members either there or at other outlets as they moved on is wild. Already said it but this is undeniably a big loss for MMA coverage.
It was a big traffic driver for Vox (one of their absolute biggest for years and years and years) and did that while being willing to cover stuff others didn't, chase stories others wouldn't and providing comprehensive coverage of every area of the MMA space
Still very upset about the Bloody Elbow news. I was the third guy brought in on the site (after Nate and Luke) and worked there as a writer and editor from 2007-2015. I took such pride in what it would go on to become both during my time there and well after.
Also, of note is that BE was a Vox (really SBNation) creation. MMA Fighting and MMA Mania are technically acquisitions that came later. BE was the first.
For Vox to punt on BE - still a high-traffic site - means the cuts overall are pretty drastic and anything there can be axed.
, but because their editorial posture in the industry was one of a kind. When no one else had the courage or resolve to cover the industry, BE did. Incalculable loss.

Chris, also an amazing guy. I don't think it gets recognized enough how many talented folks sat down at a keyboard and produced content that made them legitimate players in the space.
Hey all, some big news to share.
I just got my 30 days notice that I’m being laid off from Vox along with @KidNate and the rest of the @BloodyElbow staff.
This has been an amazing 5 year run creating MMA Squared & Combat Wombat. No matter what happens, I’ll persevere.
Well, after 11 years, I just got my 30 days notice from Vox that I'm being laid off along with the rest of the @BloodyElbow staff. The absolute basket case I've been for the last week just intensified about 1000fold.
This is awful. BE was one of the most important spaces in MMA media. I'm proud that I got my start there and worked with so many tremendous people (like Anton, who is a gem). That site also drove massive traffic, beyond just "I and many others did important, good work there"

The decision as of last week was that Ronda Rousey will not be in the Rumble because of the feeling that WWE didn’t want to marginalize her star power by being just someone in the match since she wasn’t going to win it or be the focal point
