Somewhere along the line this seems to have happened to Aussie universities too. A damn shame. Some of us actually wanted to have a high quality CS education and possibly go on to research, not have sub-par, behind the times job training.

Keep in mind: universities were traditionally built to train researchers, not practitioners. The US system and the GI Bill changed all of that and now folks expect to have vocational training after university.
