This last point is super important; every time folks complain about CS degrees one common retort is "but that's SWE not CS". Guess what: CS degrees are marketed for SWE. CS degrees are popular because of SWE. SWE jobs prefer CS degrees.

1. I never said Big-O has no validity or is not important to learn/understand 2. This is her 2nd CS class of college 3. Yes, I know CS != software engineering, but the CS degree still king for getting software jobs

This may be unfortunate, but it is how it is, and it means that it's totally valid to complain about how CS degrees fail software engineers.

The frustrating thing is some folks want CS degrees, not SWE. The results are not pretty when good, important CS is gutted to meet that mismatch in expectation.
