I think this is an important part of the misunderstanding. Yeah, my formal training in maths is quite poor, but when I'm moving stuff around and manipulating programmatic structures, experimenting with patterns and motifs and light in my art, I feel like I'm touching mathematics.

I would also agree that art and history and the humanities has also shaped me a great deal as well, and some mathematicians and programmers are equally likely to forsake them, perhaps seeing them in a utilitarian light, or worse: consider them a waste of time.
