like, you have an idea or affect in your mind, and you try to translate it to your medium (ink, code), and that process is like a little puzzle game. sometimes you have the gist but need to tweak it to be "right", sometimes you need a completely different solution.

and when you *do* find a way to express this in your medium, you now have a tool you can apply to future puzzles, increasing your overall expressivity!

Yup! Style is just a bunch of previous tools that you've collected to help you build future work more quickly. Tricky thing is when you fall into a rut, just using the same tools… I find drawing from life helps with that - increases the chance of new things popping up.
