As a non-Mozilla-employee Mozilla contributor, It's rather frustrating that these comments can exist at all. Things like the "Studies" infrastructure should be managed by a community governance structure, not Mozilla Corp corporate hierarchy.

One thing I've been thinking about a lot is that this isn't something we can (or should?) blame someone for. A lot of this is about framing; it highly depends on how this was initially framed internally. It's *super easy* to accidentally frame it in a way that downplays this.

Generally I think it's much better to look for *process* failures than to lay blame on any particular people. This was a failure of oversight/consultation, IMO.

Can be frustrating though when trying to investigate and understand the process that results in a failure gets conflated with 'making excuses'. 😫

But to be honest, the whole fear of 'making excuses' rubs me the wrong way. Retribution, justice, and blame don't do much to prevent future failures. We need understanding and compassion, especially when those involved were victims of process and their own fallible psychology.
