The mood today on HN: NoSQL was a fad, there is very rarely any reason to use anything other than a traditional DB. Are they right?

NoSQL DBs were *way* overused for problems they were not designed for, but they have their strengths if you know what you're doing.
Relational DBs are often a safer bet though, especially when requirements are still up in the air. PG also now has limited NoSQL support.
