Perplexed by responses to last blog post of the form "that stuff isn't new". Sure. Neither is nutrition, shelter, public health, education.

There's still extremely valuable work to do refining, improving, lowering costs, deploying, making universal and reliable that which is old.

I don't mean to worship the past or anything, progress is possible and often old designs do have flaws that are evident in hindsight.

But progress depends on balance between research & development, novelty & refinement. Consolidation matters! Shoulders of giants &c.

Making the products of research accessible and refining them through real-world practice is an important job.

I've seen responses the other way - 'that's confusing' or 'I would never need that'. We figure out how to build those bridges between fields
