Have you thought of taking advantage of both foreground and background colors?

@bjzaba_ I tried a version, but it looked very unclear. Maybe with more effort it might work, but I'm v. happy with what I have now!

Yeah, it's definitely need quite a bit of work to get the colours right. If I had to go for one, I'd go with the top one.
