People who think we'll ever fully understand the universe also confuse me a lot. Like we're inside of the universe and usually the only way to fully understand an interesting system is to be outside of it

I do think there is a true nature of reality, I just think it's fundamentally unknowable. It doesn't seem reasonable to fully understand a system from within it. All we can do is develop lenses for understanding it

Why would one ever be able to fully describe the universe from within the universe? This seems like an unreasonable thing to think possible to me

But this doesn't mean there isn't a true nature to our universe. What's true and what's knowable are not the same. There are almost certainly truths we'll never know

We have lots of lenses for reasoning about approximations of reality and they are pretty nice. We should keep developing more of them and studying their properties. We should never confuse this, though, with understanding the true nature of reality or our universe
