This stuff has always seemed really fascinating to me and I need to get around to understanding it better… possibly useful for programming languages as well?

Very much useful for PL as well - I just haven't gotten around to write the version that doesn't use the language of theories (and assume dependent types). There will be thorny details to work out, I'm sure.
