I wouldn't be surprised. There's been a not-so-subtle undercurrent of toxic masculinity amongst the anti-rust naysayers since the early (pre-1.0) days. Lots of fragile egos, wishful thinking and clinging to the past.

Well, I'm not sure if there is a causal link, but I'm sure the same people who get riled up when you say “maybe you aren't as good at memory safety as you think you are” (with evidence) are likely to be those who are unwilling to introspect about other things.
