would be cool if i could get the "teaching something you're good at" and "doing cool research" parts of academia w/o the "four years in class being “taught” sth you learned by yourself at 12" part
the process exists for a reason, i assume, but the process sucks.

Yeah… I tried and failed to get through undergrad twice. Would probably have loved to do research but I don't really think I can stomach going back to toil away at undergrad yet again. Thankfully I've found a job where I can do researchy stuff but I was exceedingly lucky.
