this was a good video but i do have to highlight a pretty glaring case of misinformation regarding the secure scuttlebutt protocol, mainly that it does not use a blockchain whatsoever!

overall this is a very good essay, but i did find one, quite glaring case of misinfo at 1:28:34 scuttlebutt is NOT blockchain-based in any way..! it's got NO global state/ledger and the issue of deleting old posts is a current design flaw that *can* be solved, unlike blockchains twitter.com/FoldableHuman/…

i was not aware they used such terminology in their docs i'll admit. i can't blame you for using their own word, even if i find their usage misleading. that's fair enough. if ssb counts as a "per-user blockchain" then they'd have to consider a git branch to be a blockchain too.

git is the most widely used version control system for software development, but not a lot of people would say that "programmers put most of their code, including private corporate code, on a blockchain."

Perhaps if they'd called it a ‘merkle tree’ it would have avoided the more frustrating connotations? The term ‘blockchain’ is kind of a lightning rod for a bunch of crap that you'd hope the folks behind scuttlebutt weren't interested in. 😬
