By the way: this is actually why I hate attending conferences and think this "hallway track" is just over-inflated BS. It's actually a highly stressful experience for almost everyone. It was for me when I was junior, but it is for me even as a senior person. I loathe it all.

I have no idea how to advise… this is usually my favorite part of the few (non-academic) conferences I've been to! Just randomly walking beteen people, awkwardly starting converstation, getting mutually excited about stuff.

It might be a combination of how clueless I am socially and how randomly excited about stuff I am that makes this work, but yeah, am aware that others might not find this the best environment.

In my limited experience I enjoyed it at in-person conferences, but I’m a generally outgoing person. Online I just find it immensely stressful because of the huge added friction of Zoom calls
