what does accessibility mean for compilers? is there work done on that?

I think first thing that comes to my mind is accessibility of error messages, but I don't know what that means either besides "ghc error messages suck"

I've seen a trend recently of people designing better error messages, and they tend to be highly visual and are probably even worse on a screen reader than the sorts of messages they intend to replace.

I think you'd probably want a flag for error messages designed specifically for screen readers, or at least a machine readable format so others could design tools, but I don't think anyone is doing that.

Yeah, this is what rustc does, it has both a short form, and JSON output to support tools like screen readers, IIUC: rustc-dev-guide.rust-lang.org/diagnostics.ht
