Academic twitter, is there anything in CS that's similar to art history classes or the guided studies in creative writing, which can be taken out of course assignments and applied to reading code? What's the software equivalent of studying art pieces at a museum on your own?

Which makes me wonder if people have studied this. There are known techniques to study art as an illustrator, but I haven't seen anything similar in software. I personally found unstructured/unguided studies of art to be useless so I imagine it could be similar for reading code.

Yeah! I've often wondered if this could help in CS education. I got so much out of art history at university, and it still is an influence on how I look at programming. Really broke down my misconception that my ideas had to be wholly original to be worth anything.
