Interesting. Sum and product are one of the few math things that feel way more intuitive to me than programming symbols. OTOH I get insta-lost with the “dx” Leibniz notation. Also imo & and | ! are a lot more intuitive than whatever math uses for conjunction/disjunction.

! is only intuitive because you're used to it. Traditionally "/" means or, but it's overloaded with division so that's out. && and || are just painful, but... Math (and in fact logic) use a "v" and "upside down "v", I never remember which is which, and wholeheartedly agree.

It seems like those are actually being used as multiplication and addition. And multiplication is the usual use of the period operator in algebra. If a "positive" signal is treated as true, and no signal is treated as "false", this works.
