Tomorrow in my 2nd year (undergrad) studio class I'm showing / lecturing about ' Knytt (2006), which was hugely influential on me and my career. Maybe my favorite videogame from this century.

Recently I stumbled upon an old forum post that claimed: "The original Knytt is NOT interesting (it's only exploration with few enemies and no power-ups)"
Wow, huge disagree! I love Knytt Stories too, but what's so inspiring about Knytt *is* how "stripped-down" it is.

I've never encountered another game that so exactly nails "lonely" as a core aesthetic and design pillar, and yet in such a gentle and optimistic way.
The way Knytt offers beautiful little pieces of one-shot tunes totally changed how I think about game music.

Knytt is one of my favourite games of all time. So incredibly beautiful and atmospheric. That *feeling* of scampering over the landscape… of hearing an underground waterfall a screen before actually seeing it…
