Apparently I’m in the minority here; I always read it “such that”, and it only makes sense with \exists! I like the suggestions to use a period or comma instead.

Yeah I guess I think of them both as binders, but maybe that is my brain defaulting to type theory… was confused why you'd want to use a colon – I usually use that for type ascription (granted, you _were_ using \in)
