I think the move from forums into discord etc is one of the saddest things that's happened for internet communities.
The former had history, discoverability and more open access.
Discord just feels like disposable silos.

But yeah, it's not so great for long term stuff, like I still find myself coming across LtU threads in my searches years later… you don't get that with discord.

I really love our discord community, but you end up getting the same questions popping up over time and it can sometimes be a bit frustrating.

Yeah - forums had better searchability and the ability link back easier.
That sorta exists on Discord, but it's not really the paradigm people are used to there, and moderating that behaviour is a pain.

Yeah we try to cut down on 'noise' quite a bit, and try to keep a high signal-to-noise ratio. But it's hard to have stuff like grouped topics etc. I think Zulip does this a bit better - perhaps that's an option for us?
