I like the idea of type system and programming language design as an act of 'world building'.

Yes! I also get the 'drawing as world building' from my friend - and yeah I defs see the process I take with PL and type system stuff as having deep parallels with what I did in art and design. It just can be hard because it's just so inaccessable as a medium 😔

But that can also be nice because there's a lot less pressure to 'perform' - I got a bit burned out while pushing myself hard with art a while back and it's been hard to get back into it. Hopefully one day though.
