this totally lines up with my experience. I always loved problem-solving, so math and CS were not challenging to me in that way. but I've tutored a few students who never struggled with school before, and then they really have a hard time making CS work for them.

I think the issue really comes down to training yourself to love the reward of solving a hard problem more than you hate the struggle of getting to that point. you have to be wrong for a long time before you get to be right! and for some people, that's a big hurdle to overcome.
