It's hard to overstate how valuable it is to have recordings of academic conference talks freely available, accessible to folks in the developing world who would otherwise never have access to them. If you're organizing a conference, please make recording a high priority.

There's also a ton of value in making academic work accessible to folks outside the normal academic apparatus. It's helped me a ton to have so much of the recent programming language research talks online, as somebody who is self-taught and doing stuff in industry.
