As somebody helping to mod a smallish, +1000 member discord server, this whole thread hits home. Best thing I did for my mental health this week was ban two people who were flying just inside the rules and swamping the discussion.

I haven't wanted to make a Discord server. I figure people have other things to spend their time on, and there's already at least one decent programming languages discord already. From these reports, sounds like that might be wise for my own time usage, too.

Yeah, the one I help mod is the /r/ProgrammingLanguages one. You do need to be a bit ruthless to protect the community. We were too gentle earlier on and it bit us - thankfully it's getting better now.
Thankfully PL design is pretty niche - I wouldn't want to moderate a discord for a big youtube channel or video game - expect there's lots more toxic folks to be had there. 😟

That said, I'm really thankful for the community we do have, it's been more good than bad. We just need to keep our own health in mind, over being 100% certain, or always giving second chances. If that makes sense.

Yeah, that's the one I was referring to. Thanks for your efforts. I've visited it a little, but overall, I don't use Discord very much myself.
