I particularly dislike how people use things like this to say mean shit like "look at these poor folks who don't know mathematics" when the entire problem is that the notation of choice is ambiguous and requires context. mathematics isn't a game of gotchas for dunking on folks.

This goes for programming languages too, where you see this same behaviour. Maybe, just maybe, things would improve if we stopped treating folks struggling with notation as "lacking smarts" and asked deeper questions that try to address the source. Maybe our notation just sucks.
