there's a documented linguistic phenomenon where Canadian children use a lot more American spellings, but as teenagers they slowly switch over, not as something that is taught but rather as a subconscious counterculture/"fuck america" thing

Weird alternative option is both. My brain has registered route as two words with alternate pronunciations.
- rowt: exclusively computer networking related
- root: everything else, e.g routes

I think it's because router the woodworking tool was always a rowter

'rooter' also sounds weird in a certain slang sense o_o - I use 'root' any other time though - eg. rerouting.
