Nom is very good if you think in parser generators vs grammars. If not it's a pain. If you care more about defining a grammar then might be worth to look at lalrpop or pest

hmm I'd use nom for parsing binary file formats while a parser generator for a nice textual format with a context-free grammar ideally I could do binary grammars but it tends to be an underserved usecase *urge to spend weeks on this instead of earning a living intensifies*

kaitai is "they did that thing I've wanted to do since I was 15, but worse", so I would most likely put my own spin on it (kaitai is only good for importing what they have already described, assuming the licenses play nice, but even then it didn't seem like much tbh)
