I'm surprised more people don't have a harsh review for Stranger Things at this point. The writing is so stale. Are we just all just that much a sucker for 80's nostalgia? It makes me feel like my generation is a bit full of ourselves.

The first season was like a live action SCP show, and I did love it for that. Second season was kinda disappointing.

I think people forget that all these these great 80's movies often had some kind of theme or depth they were shooting for, even if it was often a miss. But this show just seems to be celebrating the pulp parts that I didn't even like in the 80's... or any era really.

Yeah, lots of lazy callbacks. Some hints of critiques of toxic masculinity and consumerism/capitalism, but it seems like they chickened out right at the finish line on many of them. 😫
