I got interested in programming, CS, and programming languages thanks to the "Procedural Modelling of Buildings" paper that was inspired by shape grammars. Dunno what has been done since in shape grammars, but I'd love to see a more precise description of this stuff!
Based on what I know now, I think you could embed shape grammars in an functional language pretty easily as a DSL. Would be neat to have an 'a la carte' approach that also showed how they related to L-systems etc. But yeah, this might be a tad off topic from what you wanted… 😅
