Failed to make much of an impact in the first internship I had. Felt pretty terrible afterwards. But it made me aware of many things I needed to sort out: anxiety, attention, avoidance, communication, etc. and gave me a taste of working on interesting, tricky, low level problems.

Yeah, things going badly is often a great prompt to address the underlying reasons *why* they went badly. I don't have any good examples of that at work, but can think of a bunch of personal ones.

Yeah, I was super crushed that I couldn’t help them as much as I wanted to, but was thankful they gave me a chance. I’m now trying to give back to them by doing the best I can on the outside, using the stuff I learned, and trying to be a better human.

I’m super thankful for the people I met there, and I now try my best now to encourage and empathise with interns and juniors, and listen to their problems. And I’m now working on low level, interesting problems again after several years in web dev, and loving it!
