The SVG WG is planning to work on a "Core SVG" subset this year. It's primarily intended to be the "SVG subset for fonts", since TrueType allows SVG for glyph definitions now, but I'm hopeful it can be forced via Content-Type to make SVGs as safe to host on your server as jpgs.
