I mean it. I can't even answer the simple question of whether I should/shouldn't use Stack, or when I should and when I shouldn't.

I don't personally think that's actually a simple question

Agreed, and personally I jump back and forth between stack and cabal. Cabal new-* commands are catching up to stack so nowadays it's getting harder to distinguish them.

It seemed a simple enough question for a newbie trying to start a project. We're literally commanded "use Stack" and "don't use Stack", so what to do, eh?

Am on it. I've managed to bollox my Nixos install, though :)

Also I know you were haha-just-serious and I can mostly use Nix after all, but this issue makes Haskell less beginner-friendly.

I've been spoiled by cargo. Has been so much more painless (albeit not perfect) than anything else I've used. Struggled with cabal and stack - hoping that the new cabal commands fix some of this.
