an unnerving experience with a man who touts himself as a "teacher". i commented one time, "i've never known anyone who needs people's gratitude as much as you." him: "that's why i like teaching." people, esp women, who want to move up quickly don't seem "grateful" to him.

I'm guessing the thing we should be aiming for when we try to teach is to eventually get to a point where our students start teaching us? I don't think I've really mastered teaching to that level yet, because the moments that has happened to me are still kind of rare. 🤔

Although now that I think on it some more examples are coming to mind, which is a relief! But I still have a long way to go before I mastering the humble art of teaching.

i think the goal -- similar to parenting in this respect -- is to help them to a place where they don't need you anymore. they may start teaching you but you would also be growing at the same time, so they may not. but if they can fly on their own now, you've succeeded imo.
