Haskell Programming From First Principles is a nice intro to typed functional programming, even for those who haven't programmed before: haskellbook.com

Would very much recommend juniors spend some time learning a language like Haskell - it'll do wonders for improving the way you design programs, and will make it much easier to pick up languages like Swift, Scala, Reason, Rust, Elm, etc. in the future. 😀👍

I dunno, that's exactly the myth that the book is dispelling! They do an excellent job of working up from a simple foundation. The hardest things for juniors to do who were learning it would be to survive all the senior developers claiming that the language was too hard for them!
