  1. Jim Jordan told me yesterday he's for "any and all" possible reforms to FISA. That's a sharp departure from Doug Collins, current GOP ranking member on Judiciary, who wants to reauthorize most provisions not directly relevant to the Horowitz report.

  3. Dems on the House Oversight Committee have gotten this memo, btw. They spent much of last month's hearing on facial recognition stressing that even if the tech works "perfectly," it still raises a number of concerns that may require a rollback in federal use.

  4. Democrats at today's House Homeland Security hearing seem to be struggling to accept NIST's suggestion that facial recognition tech is shedding its tendency toward racial/gender bias as it improves. If they really want to rein in this tech, they're going to need another argument.

The fact that the House impeachment was completely partisan was a vital WH talking point. Romney removing Trump's ability to say the same in the Senate is huge, and now very eager to see/read Trump's reaction.

  10. Worth noting that Leahy and Lee have worked together on FISA before -- in 2017 the two introduced a bill to reform Section 702, though it failed to prevent a clean reauthorization of the provision.

  11. NEWS: and will introduce a bill to reform FISA as soon as next week, according to a Lee spox. The legislation is set to address "concerns raised by the IG report," and is separate from bipartisan bills introduced in both chambers late last month.

Capitol Police today tried to stop me from talking to Sen. Doug Jones about President Trump's impeachment trial. Jones did answer my questions, but just reiterating the restrictions on press are making it harder for the public to understand this historic process.
