It's also fitting that I felt a pit in my stomach as I went to tweet it. Surely if I had paid much attention to Twitter while Hitchens was alive I wouldn't dare tweet out any of his columns regularly.

But Hitchens made me think and his columns opened up worlds to me, even when I flatly disagreed with them. His sort of literary flair is sorely missing from my routine. The closest approximation I've found is in @matt_levine.
