They watch LinkedIn for new employees that work for me, and reach out as me asking them to pick up a gift card quick.

As an interviewer I used to ask what technical projects they work on in their spare time because it’s a great way to gauge passion/curiosity. I’ve changed it to what projects they *wish* they could work on because not everyone can afford spare time (those with kids, etc).
