    Massively underestimated: The “cost” of people coming to work knowing things are broken & fearing the next thing breaking. This holds for usability issues, “bugs”, “quality”, elephants in the room, strategy misalignment...anything. The drag and dissonance is extremely costly.

    A true thing: people don’t pay to watch stuff on Netflix. They pay for the option to watch stuff on Netflix. Understanding how much people value that is a lot more complicated than minutes spent watching.

    Sometimes I wonder if it’s a coincident that Rails became super popular at the same time when millennials (so myself included) were starting their programming careers or maybe it is exactly why Rails was successful.

    It wasn't a database migration. But, interestingly, an increase in server traffic put some unexpected pressure on a periodically-triggered job that caused our database to become unresponsive a number of times.
