    I covet your prayers for this new venture--especially during the first weeks as I work to tie off loose ends from freelance life. It's thrilling to be able to serve my hometown and its newspaper of record in this capacity, but this will also be a significant change for my family.

    Nothing much will change here. Pulling back from Twitter has paid significant quality of life dividends for me, so this account will still just be sporadic wholesome family stuff and links to my other work as it comes out.

    Friends, I'm doing something a little different starting next Monday. While I'll still be active in Catholic media, my home base will now be at my hometown newspaper: I have been appointed Associate Editor for the Editorial Page for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

    Thrilled to learn about this new cafe, staffed by people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, that will open in October in the basement of the (lovely) Church of the Epiphany in Downtown Pittsburgh. Plus I'm a huge fan of Brother Andre!

    We are sorry to report the demise of Fluffball Roly Poly Hamsterdam, aka Hammy, after a hamster life of average length and extraordinary affection. We read the Benedicite at her interment to thank God for Hammy's life and to remind us how all creation blesses the Lord.

    Friends, in your charity please pray for the soul of Rob Fleckenstein. He was the kind & joyful pastor of our neighborhood parish in our first years here, and a man called to more suffering than most. He died suddenly over the weekend at the age of 44.

    I only spent 3 days on the Mississippi Gulf Coast earlier this month, but I developed a great affection for it, especially Pass Christian. Praying for the good people of Mississippi and Louisiana today.

    My wife has been helping to stock & organize a library for a new classical Catholic academy near our home in Pittsburgh. She has created an extensive Amazon list so people can donate books to the school. See if there's something you'd like to donate!
