Currently, yes. It doesn't have to be. There are many different versions of voluntary collectives. They only go sour when you can't leave.

When you’re looking at a foundational level, they are at odds. Even though a collective can exist in a libertarian society, it still drives in a different direction where the group is more important than the individual.

If you are free to leave the commune it's not forced. There are many communes currently in existence. The only problem with voluntary collectivism is that it doesn't scale.

Agreed. Too many people and it gets impersonal and goals can change.
