Exactly! If we had higher taxes on the wealthy with the system we have now 3/4 of those dollars would have gone to the military. We actually need a system of single payer healthcare/ student debt relief, etc if the taxes are going to go to things we want and need.
OK, lemme get this straight. If @ewarren's wealth tax had been in place from 1982, Bezos would still have $49B, Gates $14B, Bloomberg $12B
And we'd ALL have child care & health care. Student debt relief. 4X more Fed $ for public schools

The wealthy, and big corporations can legally shield their wealth from government and taxes. They hire very well paid attorney and lobbyists. Before a wealth tax is passed, we would have to fundamentally change our tax code and hire high powered lawyers to ensure we get it

If we'd managed to make these changes *and* properly fund the agencies responsible for investigating and prosecuting white-collar crime, he'd be in jail for fraud/money laundering.
